  Refinishing Fallacy

  Restoring an item by refinishing does not decrease the value, unless done poorly. When the wood grain is meant to be seen, and the aged finish takes away eh ability to see the wood,  the finish should be replaced to restore the original intent. Ninety-nine percent of all antique items, wood ore metal. would be enhance ed by proper restoration.

  The only exception to that rule would be removing the finish or surface paint from an original period piece, as that was not the intent of the design.
